Our History

The Kanata Research Park Family Centre was created in response to employee requests for family supports. The expanding community and campus warranted the development of a campus location providing multiple services.

It all began in 1999, Kanata Research Park Properties recognized the private sectors responsibility to children and their families.  In the fall of that same year, 100 Helmsdale Drive was converted from a “Bed and Breakfast” style housing to a licensed multi-service, not for profit, early learning and care agency. The 13,000 square feet building was extensively renovated and retrofitted at a cost of 1.2 million dollars, and in March of 2000 the Kanata Research Park Family Centre opened its doors to  children and families.

Confident that this endeavour would be a success, Kanata Research Park Corporation pledged ongoing operational financial support for twenty years, creating the first private-sector, non-profit early learning and care financial partnership in Ottawa. This long standing partnership has enabled the Family Centre to offer a high quality early learning experience to the children and families.

Over the years, Kanata North community has grown at a rapid rate and it continues to grow and flourish as new housing communities are being built, a new recreational centre was added and new schools are also being built.

The Family Centre recognized the additional need for high  quality early learning and care spaces . At the beginning of  2015, the  Family Centre responded to those demands and embarked on a transformation of their entire Centre.  With financial support from the Ministry of Education and the City of Ottawa, the Family Centre had extensive renovations and created  additional spaces for toddler  and preschool aged children. Renovations were completed at the end of the summer and the licensed capacity increased by 15 toddler aged children and an additional 13 preschool aged children spaces were created.

The Family Centre is very grateful for the ongoing support of Kanata Research Park Properties as they have been offered their expertise and guidance throughout this enormous retrofit. We are very excited to be able to make this transformation a reality and it would not have been possible without KRP properties and funding through the City of Ottawa.

The Family Centre is proud to be a part of the Canada Wide Early Learning and Child Care system. We are excited for the transformation and to see what’s next in early learning and care!

We are committed to ensuring we continue to be innovative, creative and offer families quality programs for their children.
